Oscar-Winning Filmmaker Malcolm Clarke Turns His Lens on Shenzhen in New Documentary

SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Millions of dreams. One city. A future in the making.

The documentary Shenzhen: People Who Build the Future explores one of the world's most dynamic metropolises through the discerning eye of two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Malcolm Clarke, who guides the film as writer and narrator.

Moving beyond familiar skylines and rapid economic growth, Clarke unpacks the city's true engine, embodied in seven individuals across generations. From early builders who laid the groundwork to tech dreamers tackling supercars and robotics, from international educators to artists carrying Chinese culture abroad, their personal journeys define the city's pulse.

Brought to life through Clarke's distinctive perspective, this documentary captures the resilience, grit, and imagination of a place where tomorrow is not merely envisioned, but actively built by hand.

The documentary is a collaboration between Shenzhen Media Group and Malcolm Clarke.
