SINGAPORE WINE WEEK 2026 GRAND CELLAR AUCTION SETS TWO CONSECUTIVE WORLD RECORDS

Impeccable APAC

1945 Château Mouton Rothschild sets a new world record at SGD 80,000, only for the record to be broken moments later at SGD 100,000

SINGAPORE, Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Singapore Wine Week 2026 made auction history at its Grand Cellar Auction, held on 4 October 2026 at The Laurus, Resorts World Sentosa, setting two consecutive world records for a single 750ml bottle of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945, with the first record established at SGD 80,000 and immediately broken by the very next lot at SGD 100,000, both before buyer's premium.

The extraordinary sequence began with Lot 286, comprising one 750ml bottle of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945, which achieved a winning bid of SGD 80,000 before buyer's premium. This established a new world record for a single bottle of the legendary 1945 vintage in standard 750ml format.

Moments later, Lot 287, another single 750ml bottle of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945, sold for SGD 100,000 before buyer's premium, immediately breaking the record set in the preceding lot.

In the space of two consecutive lots, the world-record price for a single 750ml bottle of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945 therefore rose from SGD 80,000 to SGD 100,000, marking an unprecedented double world-record break within a single auction.

The previous benchmark for a standard 750ml bottle can be traced to a 2016 Sotheby's New York wine auction, where a 10-bottle lot of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945 from the cellar of billionaire wine collector Bill Koch sold for USD 343,000. This works out to approximately USD 34,300 per 750ml bottle, equivalent to approximately SGD 43,900 per bottle at current exchange rates.

Against this benchmark, the SGD 100,000 winning bid achieved at Singapore Wine Week represents more than double the previous per-bottle benchmark.

A separate record for a 3-litre Jeroboam of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945 was also established at a Sotheby's New York auction in 2007. However, larger-format bottles are not directly comparable with standard 750ml bottles, as they typically command a significant premium beyond the equivalent value of multiple standard bottles. The 2016 Sotheby's sale therefore provides the more appropriate comparison for assessing the value of a single 750ml bottle.

The exceptional results underscore the growing appetite among international collectors for rare, mature and historically significant wines, while highlighting Singapore's emergence as a serious hub for the global fine-wine community.

"We are delighted that Singapore Wine Week 2026 has achieved such a remarkable milestone at Resorts World Sentosa. The record-setting auction underscores the growing stature of Singapore as a destination for exceptional gastronomic and luxury experiences, while reflecting the increasing sophistication of the region's fine wine community. As the Official Integrated Resort Partner, we are proud to provide a world-class setting where collectors, connoisseurs and industry leaders can come together to celebrate a shared passion for wine, culture and excellence," quotes Andreas Reich, Senior Vice President, Hospitality.

The Grand Cellar Auction formed part of Singapore Wine Week 2026, presented by Impeccable APAC and Park90, with Resorts World Sentosa as the event's Official Integrated Resort Partner. The auction brought together rare vintages, mature bottles and sought-after releases from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne and the New World, with selections drawn from private cellars and renowned estates.

The record-setting Château Mouton Rothschild results provided a defining moment for this year's Singapore Wine Week, demonstrating the extraordinary value collectors continue to place on bottles with provenance, rarity and historic significance.
