OceanBase Named Top Distributed Transactional Database Vendor in Asia & Oceania in Omdia Report
SINGAPORE, Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- OceanBase has been named the top distributed transactional database vendor in Asia and Oceania based on 2025 revenue, according to the newly released Omdia report, Distributed Transactional Database in Asia & Oceania - 2026. Capturing a 15.5% market share, OceanBase outpaced major cloud service providers, underscoring its leadership in supporting mission-critical workloads across the region.
The report highlights a rapidly expanding market driven by complex IT environments and the ongoing modernization of enterprise applications. The total market size for distributed transactional database in Asia and Oceania reached $902.4 million in 2025 and is projected to grow to $1.1 billion in 2026. With a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.3%, the market is expected to reach $1.8 billion by 2029.
"OceanBase's top ranking in this dynamic and high-growth market is a testament to our commitment to delivering industry-leading distributed database technology," said Evan Yang, CEO of OceanBase. "As enterprises across Asia and Oceania modernize their infrastructure and embrace AI-driven innovation, they require a database that combines high performance, strong consistency, and seamless scalability. We are proud to be the trusted choice for leading enterprises navigating this transformation."
The Omdia report attributes OceanBase's success to its strong performance in China and expansion in key regional markets. The database has become the backbone for modern regional applications, powering high-traffic apps such as GCash, TNG Digital, Lalamove, and Trip.com. These deployments demonstrate OceanBase's ability to handle massive transaction volumes and complex workloads while maintaining low latency and high availability.
Beyond digital-native applications, OceanBase is also supporting traditional financial institutions to upgrade their core business systems. Banks across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Laos are increasingly adopting OceanBase to drive their mission-critical system modernization and digital transformation.
While Chinese cloud providers have achieved strong adoption domestically, the report notes that global cloud service providers are driving significant distributed database adoption in the rest of the Asia and Oceania region. OceanBase has successfully bridged this landscape with its multi-cloud architecture, enabling customers to deploy a unified database across hybrid and multi-cloud environments without vendor lock-in.
Today, OceanBase delivers services across more than 240 availability zones in over 60 geographic regions, supporting six major public cloud infrastructures including Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company has built comprehensive, full-scenario solutions for international markets covering fintech, internet, and e-commerce sectors. Furthermore, OceanBase was recognized with the Amazon Web Services China Annual Partner Award in May 2026.
The report also identifies AI integration as a key trend shaping the future of distributed transactional database. Distributed databases are now evolving from systems of record to intelligence engines, enabling agents to better consume data. Vendors are also integrating AI algorithms for predictive monitoring and security.
OceanBase has been at the forefront of this evolution, actively integrating advanced AI capabilities into its distributed database platform. In June, OceanBase announced the release of OceanBase AI Database, a comprehensive portfolio designed to enable enterprises to manage multimodal data, deliver real-time trusted data context to AI agents, and simplify fragmented data architectures.
As the Asia and Oceania distributed database market continues its strong growth trajectory, OceanBase remains focused on advancing its technology and expanding its regional footprint. Today, the company serves over 4,000 customers worldwide. The company has a particularly strong footprint in the financial technology (fintech) sector, supporting more than 100 fintech customers, including over 20 e-wallets, 50 payment services, and 30 innovative fintech firms. Collectively, these customers serve over 1.3 billion end-users.
